In celebration of 113th Philippine Independence Day, the Pilipino Independence Day Council Singapore (PIDCS) and UPAAS invite you to this inaugural QUIZ BEE competition this Sunday, 12 June 2011 at Speakers’ Corner, Hong Lim Park at 10:00-10:45am (Preliminary Round) and 1:00-1:30pm(Final Round). Mechanics
The quiz bee will be held in two stages: a preliminary round (45 min from 10am) and a final round (30 min from 1pm). Question topics are mostly general info covering Philippine history, arts and culture, and more. The quiz bee will be conducted in English.
Preliminary Round
Time: 10-11AM
Venue: Dance Room, 2nd Floor Upper Pickering Street (just at the back of Hong Lim Park stage)
The preliminary round is a 50-item multiple choice written quiz, to be conducted within 45 minutes. After the quiz, fifteen (15) contestants with the highest scores will be selected to advance to the final round that will be held in Hong Lim Park stage at 1:00 PM. The top 15 contestants who qualify in the final round will be notified via SMS/call one hour before the final round.
Final Round
Time: 1-1:30PM
Venue: Hong Lim Park Stage
Fifteen contestants will compete in the 30-minute quiz bee on stage. There will be two sets
Elimination Set
Duration: 15mins
Mechanics: This is a multiple choice Q&A portion. All contestants are lined-up on stage. Each contestant will be handed big flashcards (A B C D). Quizmaster will ask series of questions. For each question, when the quizmaster says GO, the contestant will raise the flashcard with their chosen letter of answer. Contestant will be given three (3) seconds to raise their answer. The top three contestants with most number of correct answers will advance in the final showdown.
Clincher (if needed): In case of ties for the top three positions, a clincher will be conducted. The last man standing with most correct answers will advance to the next round.
Scenario: A and B are correct, C wrong. C is eliminated, and A & B sill duke it out
Final Showdown
Duration: 10mins
Mechanics: The three contestants will be handed a whiteboard and pen to write their answers. Quizmaster will ask series of questions. For each question, once the quizmaster says GO, the contestant will be given 15 seconds to write down their answer on the paper provided. At the sound of the bell, contestants will raise their answer. Based on the scores, the top three contestants will be ranked.
Clincher (if needed): A clincher will be conducted to break ties in ranking.
Scenario 1: A and B are correct, C wrong. Then C is automatically 3rd, A & B will duke it out to determine who will be first
Scenario 2: A is correct, B and C are wrong. Then A is automatically first, B and C will duke it out to determine who is second (and third)
For any complaint or question, an assistant will forward the matter to the judges for them to consider and evaluate. The decision of the judges is final.
